The Critical Link between Strong Health Systems, and Sustainable Peace

Training the next generation of healthcare leaders: Swisscross Chief Surgeon Dr Walter Kunzi and Microsurgery Specialist, Dr Natasha Forster with local Surgical Nurse Sayran Mohamed and two plastics residents observing a radial forearm flap surgery on a severely burnt 12-year-old girl. May 2023

There is a profound connection between strong health systems and sustainable peace. Beyond the direct provision of healthcare services, robust health systems play a pivotal role in fostering peace, stability, and prosperity within societies. By addressing health disparities, promoting social cohesion, and mitigating conflict, these systems contribute significantly to building resilient communities.

In war-torn regions like Iraq, the Swisscross Foundation has been making a significant difference in the lives of people with disabilities and trauma injuries. They provide essential medical treatment, rehabilitation services, and support systems to help individuals with disabilities regain their independence and lead fulfilling lives. By addressing the challenges faced by this vulnerable population, the Foundation contributes to the healing and rebuilding of communities, fostering unity and stability.

Having worked across global conflict settings, Swisscross recognizes the multifaceted ways in which our efforts can directly and indirectly support the promotion and sustaining of peace.
